Ishpeming Students Participate in 2025 Healthy Cooking Challenge

Ishpeming 5th and 6th graders celebrated the last day of the winter 2025 Healthy Cooking class with a fun cooking competition. Students got to show off their new cooking skills by creating tasty noodle dishes for the judges!

The Challenge

Students were challenged with using the following food groups in their noodle dishes; a carbohydrate, a protein, a fat, a salt, an acid, vegetables, all cooked over heat.

The available ingredients to cook with were: red pasta sauce, lemon, milk, butter, assorted spices, bell peppers, mushrooms, spinach, broccolini, kale, garlic, pickles, beans, sun dried tomatoes, carrots, spinach and eggs.

The Judges

Judges included Phil from Partridge Creek Compost, Ishpeming Principal Seth Hoopingarner, and Pam Valdez from the Marquette Food Coop, PCF staff, and a few amazing Ishpeming Teachers!

The judges were tasked with tasting each group’s dish and assigning a score that would ultimately lead to the winning group in each class.

PCF staff is grateful to each of the judges for taking time to taste and judge our Healthy Cooking Competition!

The Winning Teams

The winning team from each class was awarded a space in an Ishpeming Middle School Garden bed to grow a few vegetables of their choosing. The groups name will also be displayed on the bed.

PCF is proud of each Healthy Cooking student for showing up, trying new foods, and learning how to cook new recipes!

5th Grade Winning Teams: Curry Masters and EECF

6th Grade Winning Teams: Unicorns, Epic Italian Chefs
